Astrid Cripps - Artist
I am an artist who lives in the beautiful county of Gloucestershire, which has inspired me to paint the wonderful and colourful countryside for some years. I moved here 60 years ago from my home town of Stockport, where I enjoyed art at school, and also pursuits including potholing, and folk music (which seemed to go hand in hand!) I took up my passion for art again in 1985, when I joined an art group in Tewkesbury, painting in all media. My preferred medium for some years was pastel, more recently graphite and coloured pencil, which I enjoy very much.
I have produced several children and dog portraits, as well as numerous landscapes of scenes from the surrounding villages of Apperley and Deerhurst.
I produce greetings cards from many of my pictures, almost always featuring an original verse inspired by the subject.
I feel very lucky that these have
proved to be popular.
I am often commissioned to produce individual works for private clients.
Sometimes these are unusual, and have included a house sign on slate, a trompe
l’oeil mural, and another on the boot lid of a VW Beetle!
I am a past Chairman of Tewkesbury Art Society, and was an Exhibiting
Member of Gloucestershire Society of Artists.
I also join forces with my husband Peter to play as a duo, (entertaining in residential homes and clubs). I am on the
committee of Glos Folk, keeping traditional music alive and kicking in the
county.
Meet me at Deerhurst Flower Festival - August 24 - 26, when I will have a selection of my greetings cards for sale, including the new "Silly Squirrel" series!
